Full body scanner leak confirms privacy concerns

One tactic the TSA use to reassure us, the public, that full body scanners are safe is to claim that the images are deleted immediately after scanning, and therefore immune to abuse. This story from Gizmodo gives the lie to that idea, showing as it does images taken from a machine in action in a Florida courthouse.

Admittedly, the images shown here are pretty low-resolution. Hardly the stuff of privacy nightmares. The point is, though, that they just happen to come from a machine that displays images in low-resolution. They could equally easily have come from a high-resolution machine.

The TSA claims (of all full body scanners) that operators “cannot store, print, transmit or save the image.” This leak proves definitively that they are mistaken in that assertion.
